Sophie Hunter

My experience of working in schools began in October 2009, subsequent to a career in archaeology. This led to completing a PGCE in 2011, involving teaching placements covering KS1 and KS2 (classed 'good' and 'outstanding') in the London boroughs of Hackney and Tottenham. The draw of the sea and the South Downs brought me to Brighton after qualifying, and a year of supply teaching followed. This experience led me to set up the successful tutoring business 'Brighton Tutor', which has been growing since 2012.

I use a positive teaching approach, carefully tailoring lessons and resources for each pupil, depending upon their individual requirements and learning styles. My positive reinforcement really encourages pupils, and I am able to provide a comfortable, safe working environment, where making mistakes, questioning and dialogue are

effective tools for learning. I strive to build up children's confidence and show them that learning can be a fun, enjoyable and rewarding experience, which enables them to perform better at school and become more independent learners.
